STARS - Skills Training And Recreational Soccer

Competitive:  If your player is rostered on an FC Dallas-EC competitive team, they are not eligible to play in STARS. 

Pool:  If your player is a pool player for an FC Dallas-EC team, then you are encouraged to register for STARS.

Tryouts:  If your player is trying out for an FC Dallas-EC competitive team for the spring season, you may register for STARS and tryouts.  If you player makes a competitive team, they will be de-registered from STARS.  If they are selected as a pool player, they will be allowed to remain in STARS.

WHAT:  STARS is a recreational soccer program administered by the FC Dallas Emerald Coast competitive youth travel soccer club. Consistent with Club Development programs around the world, this program is designed to maximize development, touches, playing time, and (most importantly) fun for kids at all levels of play.  Games are 4v4 for U6, 4v4 for U8, 7v7 for U10, 9v9 for U12, and 11v11 for U14 and High School (U16-U18).

The STARS program is an entirely volunteer-run program. In order to provide the best experience for our athletes and families, we are always looking for people who want to help out! Anyone who can help out with administration, field maintenance, or game day management can email the STARS Director at

WHO: Boys and girls born in 2003 through 2016.  Teams will be co-ed.

WHERE: Practices and games to be held at Lewis School in Valparaiso and/or Twin Oaks in Niceville for U6-U12. U14 and HS will play at multiple sites.

U6 practices once a week, U8-HS practices twice a week.

  • Games begin on February 20th.
  • Please note that a copy of the birth certificate and medical insurance information is required at registration for new players.

Volunteer Coaches and Team Managers

STARS is an all-volunteer organization. Without dedicated volunteers, STARS could not exist. Please get involved to support the program for the kids. We need coaches for 2020 Spring Season

All coaches/volunteers must complete:

  • Online registration
  • SAFESPORTS Training
  • US CLUB BACKGROUND SCREENING (both linked below).  

NOTE:  Assistant coaches that are under 18 years old only need to complete the online registration and the Sideline Sports module.  Background checks are not required.

U6 and U8 coaches must complete the US Soccer 4v4 Module at  This course costs $25, which will be reimbursed.

U10 coaches must complete the US Soccer 7v7 Module at  This course costs $25, which will be reimbursed.

U12 coaches must complete the US Soccer 9v9 Module at  This course costs $25, which will be reimbursed.

U14 coaches must complete the US Soccer 11v11 Module at  This course costs $25, which will be reimbursed.

  • The course costs $5. We will reimburse you for this course.  
  • It takes approximately 1 hour to complete the course. You can start/stop the course as needed and even take it over a multiple days so that you can work it in around your schedule.
  • When completing the application, please use "FC Dallas Emerald Coast - STARS" as the club name. 
Become “SafeSport Trained.”

Instructions: Please send an email to in order to receive an auto-reply with the link, U.S. Soccer access code, and instructions to take the course. (The U.S. Center for SafeSport and U.S. Soccer will not allow the code to be posted publicly.)

Once all three modules are completed, you will be able to download a master “SafeSport Trained” certificate from your SafeSport dashboard. Save this certificate. You will be required to upload it into your next US Club Soccer background screening application beginning with the 2018-19 registration year, as a condition of US Club Soccer staff registration. Important distinction: While you will receive a certificate after each of the three modules, uploading one of those does not suffice. US Club Soccer requires uploading the master “SafeSport Trained” certificate. Click here for visual instructions to access, download and properly save your SafeSport Trained certificate.



  • Please send your SSD certificate to
  • Once you complete the SIDELINE SPORTS COURSE, you will receive an email with your Certificate of Completion. 
  • Click the 'US Club Background Screening' link above and complete the requested information to get to the background screening application.  Upon submission you will receive another email to activate your account.  You will have to pay the $18 fee, but FC Dallas - EC will reimburse this cost.
  • On the webpage that opens click the 'Activate My Account' button and complete the requested information.  You will need the Sideline Sports Completion Certificate Number to complete this step.  Also note that for club name you will choose FC Dallas Emerald Coast. 
  • Once you receive your background screening email with the 'CLEAR' result, please forward that email along with your Sideline Sports Completion Certificate to the STARS program director at


  • All modules required the completion of the Introduction to Grassroots Module (free of charge) prior to completion of the respective online module.
  • STARS coaches will be reimbursed for the online version of their module ($25).  Any coach may elect to register for and attend an in-person course, but will only be reimbursed $25.


  • Coaches may request players from their fall recreation teams.  
  • Requests will be considered, but are not guaranteed.
  • All teams will be co-ed.
