FC Dallas-Emerald Coast Promotes Carlos Bonilla to Director of Coaching & Player Development

Niceville, Fla. – FC Dallas-Emerald Coast announced today that it has promoted Senior Staff Coach Carlos Bonilla as its 5th Director of Coaching & Player Development in club history.

“Carlos Bonilla is one of the most talented coaches in the region,” commented FC Dallas-Emerald Coast President Ed Espinoza.  “He has a special way of working with players that focuses on both athletic and personal growth.  He recognizes soccer is just the platform we use to teach valuable life lessons that will apply throughout the players' lives, on and off the field.  That big-picture perspective is one of the reasons we're excited about hiring him as our Director of Coaching.  He has what it takes to be an excellent leader for the development of our youth and our coaching staff.”

After moving away to work in Miami with Autonation in 2013, Carlos Bonilla returned to the FC Dallas-Emerald Coast coaching staff in June 2017.  He has been a staff coach with the club for a total of 7 years including former names Emerald Coast United, Northwest Florida Force and Niceville Sting.

Executive Director Louis Richard remarked, “I have known Carlos for over 15 years and he is an absolute professional.  I am excited that he has accepted the Director of Coaching & Player Development role for FC Dallas-Emerald Coast.  He has a wealth of knowledge and I know that he will do a wonderful job of developing players, growing our coaching staff and expanding their expertise.”

Carlos Bonilla is a former Olympic Development Program (ODP) Staff Coach with both Alabama and Florida. He is the current Head Coach of the U17 Boys 2004 I-10 Fútbol Alliance Regional team.  In 2018, he was the Associate Head Coach for the U15 Boys 2003 I-10 Fútbol Alliance Regional team who won the US Club Soccer Southeast Regional Championship.  They represented the I-10 Fútbol Alliance at the US Club Soccer Nationals that summer in Denver, Colorado.

In addition to the USSF “B” coaching license, Bonilla holds his United Soccer Coaches Director of Coaching Diploma and Advanced National Diploma.  Bonilla served as the Crestview High School Girls Varsity Head Coach from 2006-2010.
